Black
bear are very numerous and can get to an old age in our area. The
seasons are more conservative than other areas and no baiting is allowed.
This gives the bears a chance to grow to trophy size. We hunt in mountainous
areas that have numerous old homestead and millions of fruit trees,
plum, apple, cherry, chokecherry, pear to name a few. This is the
main food source in the fall and bears travel for miles to come to
these long time food sources. Since these fruits are mostly on private
land we get to manage our populations to ensure high success. Black
bear do grow fast and can’t stand to stay away from these tasty
treats. This is one reason why we have been 98% or better year after
year. In past years we have ran about 60% color phase on all of our
black bear hunts. The average bear during Spring Season is about 200
pounds and 6-foot square. The average bear in the fall is about 350
lbs and over 6 feet squared. Every year Reggear Outfitters
harvest bears that break the 400 lb mark and measure over 7 feet in
length. Great genetics and a rich food supply have a lot to do with
the trophy size black bears taken every year by Reggear Outfitters.

We
hunt right around a large reservoir that is 53 miles long. As bear
population’s move to find new food sources, this reservoir creates
a barrier that directs the bear movements parallel with the bank edge.
Consequently this brings them to the old homesteads and we always
have a full supply of trophy-sized black bears to harvest every year.
The terrain that Reggear Outfitters hunts is very
rugged. But with 4x4 vehicles and ATV’s the terrain becomes
very accessible for about anyone that likes to hunt.
Spring means grass is greening up and the low elevation means food
is earlier and more plentiful. This allows the bears to come out of
hibernation earlier and have more food than in other areas. This means
the black bear can come out of the den earlier and go in later, which
gives them more time to eat and get bigger on the average than bears
in the higher mountain regions. Also, we can get around the area more
freely because the snow goes off earlier. All of these reasons make
us a leader in black bear hunting with hounds throughout the world.
We specialize in quality not quantity. We welcome hunters of all ages,
gender and weapon choice (rifle, handgun, archery or black powder).
Our goal is to put every one of our hunters in front of a trophy bear
and provide harvest opportunities.
