Reggear
Outfitters operating area is located in the middle of the Bitterroot
Mountains in the lower foothill regions. A 53 mile long reservoir
is located right in the middle of it and the shores create a large
wintering range for deer, elk, moose and other smaller game animals.
Vast wilderness to the north and east are always spilling out many
Mt. Lions following their food source. Consequently, this is the main
reason for many trophy size Mt. Lions to become densely populated in
a small area in which Reggear Outfitters hunt. Reggear outfitters
harvest many cats that go Pope and Young. Each year we harvest 2 or
more lions that would go Boone and Crockett. This is about 25% of
out take each year.
In early December, all hunts are conducted using 4x4 pickups and ATV’s.
As the snow deepens and gets hard and crunchy, snow machines and ATV’s
are used. Some time lots of legwork is needed but not to often. This
means that enough quality equipment to operate the hunt is needed.
The upkeep of this special equipment is very expensive but it is a
regular part of the operation. Reggear Outfitters has found it is
productive to run two hunters a hunt. This means more guides and staff
can help look for tracks and move equipment around to make the hunt
enjoyable and successful for the hunters. Having hunted this area
for over 22 years gives us the ability to know the travel routes and
patterns of these exciting animals. All hunters’ return home
every night after the hunt to a warm cabin a hot shower and a home
cooked meal. This is a rare opportunity to hunt remote, rugged, wild
country, and yet travel back to civilization. Some hunts can also be
booked with help of other outfitters in Montana and Wyoming. This
gives us the ability to address weather conditions that we don’t
have control over. |
